16 Animals Are Watching You: Last Day to Bid on Julia’s Pet Food Paintings

I, Bernie Harberts, did not use generative AI to write or illustrate this article. Spell check and grammar check, yes. AI, no.

Happy Sunday morning! A guinea hen named Freezy would look good on your wall. Today’s your last chance to bid on Julia’s Pet Food paintings, and every dollar goes to a local animal shelter.

Meet Freezy the guinea hen. She’s named after the frozen banana recipe of the same name in Pet Food.

About Pet Food

Julia painted these for her cookbook Pet Food: 16 Dessert Recipes to Make You Smile and I framed them in oak barn wood. Each animal is named after one of the desserts in the book. They’ve been hanging at Happy Valley Filling Station and today is the last day of the showing.

All 16 farm animal paintings are for sale with a starting bid of $300. If you’re an animal lover looking for a bright painting for your home, or hunting for a spectacular Christmas gift for the animal lover on your list, this is your chance.

My favorite thing about these paintings is the eyes. Each animal looks at you wherever you’re standing in the room, so you’ll never feel alone. There’ll always be a friendly border collie, donkey or goat keeping you company. I’ve included close-ups of each painting. Click through the series to find your favorite but beware, you might come home with a bull. That would be Key Lime.

Here’s the whole menagerie up close. Keep an eye on Key Lime. He’s keeping an eye on you.

Watermelon the Haflinger pony
Cake and Angel the ducks
Puddin’ the Anatolian dog
Walnut the cat

Chocolate Chip the donkey
Rhubarb the Nubian goat
Blueberry the Sebright rooster
Crackers the goose

Key Lime the bull. Consider yourself warned.
