Maps are coming

Overlooking Spain Bay, Tasmania. But just where is it? And what’s the range of hills in the background called….

It’s confusing as hell. First, no one knows (including me for my first 30-something years) where Tasmania is. But Spain Bay, Tasmania? Forget about it…

Until now.

Yep, maps have been added to RiverEarth.com. So soon you’ll be able to find out just where those freaky looking lobsters were caught. Or where the guy with the kangaroo bullwhip collection lives. Or, for that matter, where Spain Bay lies.

So take a moment and have look at the map below. For a peek at the aerial view, click on “Satellite”. Then play around a bit and zoom in and out for some amazing views of southern Tasmania. It’s rough country. Accessible only by boat or foot. And now, aerial view. So have at it.

Now, though, it’s time for a shower and a shave. I’ve just returned from almost three weeks on the go aboard “Miss Carmen”, a Tasmanian crayfishing boat. So the beard you see in the photo above has to go. Then come clean socks and a haircut.

And then, lots more maps, photos and postcards.

Hold fast!

I used to fish crays around there and visited Denny a few times hes passed away now i guess I think he walkedou along the south coast trck nonstop forget how many hours but he was a small guy but once he got into his rhythm he was devastating.Dont forget to check out Casilda in Hobart when you get back. Hey Gary and Beryl and Peta. Wow, great hearing from you all! Hey Gary, I photographed this cool old cray boat on my bike peregrination last month. Turns out it was the “Casilda” you once owned! She’s just been re-splashed and looks a treat. Down Dover-way and headed for Lymington/Hobart (I reckon). Yeah, we steamed right past Huon Island.
Okay, time to run. Beard’s gotta go (sorry Peta!). Cheers Bernie Moonah Tasmania

I am enjoying following your travels and adventures in Tasmania.
Will you be celebrating Christmas there? If so, how?
Merry Christmas!

Hiya Carolyn. Glad you’re enjoying the travels by pedal and hull. I plan to celebrate Christmas here in Hobart aboard a crayfish boat. Then catch the end of the Sydney to Hobart sailboat race. Then….heck, mail some metal postcards (stay tuned for that story). . Have a great Christmas and New Year!
