I remember sitting on Brick's back, thinking, "Wow, this is so beautiful. Brick's drinking, and I'm feeling like a real cowboy." Now, when I look at the photo that my wife Julia took, I realize, "Man, you're lucky Brick's such a good mule. That saddle is about to slide down her neck, and there's no britching or crupper to hold it in place when it breaks loose. And about the time that saddle ends up around her ears, she's going to dump your ass into that pond." I got lucky. The saddle held and Brick didn't launch me.
