I drove by this sign in my wagon and pulled over to see if I could buy a jar of cactus jelly. They didn't have any, but they did sell Coca-Cola, which you can buy everywhere, even in Salt Flat, Texas.
So I’m assuming cactus jelly is an actual thing… Other cacti serve as food, like prickly pear, Agave stems and fruit, etc. Bet you its full of vitamins!
It’s really a thing. I’m guessing it’s made from prickly pear fruit. Sounds like something that needs a lots of sugar to make it palatable, like making a bunch of sour quince into something that tastes like pear jam.
