I, Bernie Harberts, did not use generative AI to write or illustrate this article. Spell check and grammar check, yes. AI, no.
Julia visited mules Brick and Cracker and me in Hyannis, Nebraska, while we were riding from North Carolina to Idaho. The day she flew home, I wrote her a card, rode the mules to the post office and mailed it. The card read, "Dear Julia. I wanted to welcome you home with some mail and thought you'd enjoy this card. What a wonderful visit we had. It sure was hard to see you go, but I remember how quickly time goes and how soon we'll be together again. " I can't read the rest of the card because my thumb is blocking it, and, besides, not everything a husband writes his wife has to be shared. The card ends, "I love you so much," and, to this very day, long after I've come home from that trip, I still do. (Hyannis, Nebraska)
