Rocky Mountain Mule Saddle Frost

I, Bernie Harberts, did not use generative AI to write or illustrate this article. Spell check and grammar check, yes. AI, no.

Is fall not cool enough for you yet? Here are some chill photos to cool you down a few degrees. They are from my camp along the Greys River (Wyoming) earlier this week.

Is this better? Some crisp frost and fall color for you.
Bernie Harberts bivy bag camp along the Greys River, Wyoming in late September frost during cross-country mule ride.
My camp. I’ve been sleeping in my bivy bag. Big, toasty thanks to my wife Julia for sending me a warmer sleeping bag right when I needed it. Night time temps have dipped in to the mid-twenties lately.

Cracker and Brick browse on frosty grass. The low temps spike the sugar content of the grass they’re eating. This is good news considering I can’t carry much grain to feed them. So far, they’re keeping on the weight. So am I. I start every morning with…

One Response to Rocky Mountain Mule Saddle Frost

  • My wife and I just returned from The Spokane area, where it snowed during the last few days of September. First time since 1926. Cold and wind in the mid 30s. Our grandsons wedding which was planned for outside. So the ceremony was moved into a wonderful old sawn fletched barn. Wish I could send you a photo. Safe travels. Tb
